 Help Me Feel Safe and Calm: Caregiver Needed for Late-Stage Dementia

Caregiver Position Description 

Hello,


I'm Sharon. I live in Florence, KY. I have late-stage dementia. I don’t talk much anymore, and I may not always recognize you. But I still feel everything.

I feel it when someone speaks softly.

I feel it when the room is calm and warm.

I feel it when someone is rushing, or when the day is too loud.

I need a steady presence—someone to help me feel safe, even when I can’t ask for what I need.

What You’ll Help Me With
You’ll help me with the little things that matter most:

  • Staying clean and comfortable (bathing, dressing, toileting, incontinence care - total assistance required) 
  • Encouraging eating and drinking. I'm not eating much these days. 
  • Shifting positions and moving using gait belts, wheelchair, hoyer lyft, slide sheet and more. 
  • Keeping a calm, quiet routine (reading, music, soft TV, lighting, comforting presence)
  • Light housekeeping 
  • Communicating with my family and the care team if something seems off

Who are you?
Good candidates for this position are: 

  • Experienced with late-stage dementia or hospice care
  • Calm, steady, and not easily flustered
  • Okay with silence. You understand that this work is both challenging and rewarding.
  • Have a heart to support people during the most challenging part of life
  • Flexible 

 

Requirements: 

  • 21+years of age
  • Driver's license and insurance
  • Must be able to lift more than 50 pounds to provide full assistance with mobility 
  • Must be dependable and respectful of me and my home 
  • Must be comfortable with hands-on personal care
  • Must pass a background checks, drug screen, and complete TB screening

 

 Rate:

  • $26.50/hr ​

Hours: Available to work at least some of the following on a weekly recurring schedule: 

  • Sunday afternoon 
  • Sunday evening 
  • Sunday overnight 
  •  Monday daytime 
  • Monday evening 
  • Monday overnight
